Two-phase Dynamics Instabilities in a Boiling Channel with an Exit Restriction

The two-phase flow pressure-drop type instabilities in a two-phase upflow boiling system has been studied theoretically. A mathematical model for the exit restriction is presented. To predict the steady state characteristics of the boiling system, the drift-flux model is adopted. The dynamic oscillations of the quasi-static pressure-drop type instabilities are simulated, and good predictions of the system stability boundary and oscillations characteristics are obtained when compared with the experiments.
